What is the “Joy of Waxing?”

As long as you do not shave between services, each visit is less painful than the last, which is the true joy of waxing. What’s more, your hair will grow finer and more sparse with each visit. And you will not experience the ‘cactus feel’ you do with shaving, making it easier to grow out between waxes.

What is the difference between a Brazilian and a Playboy?

For a Playboy, think ‘Landing Strip and nothing else.’ For a Brazilian, think ‘No hair ANYWHERE.’

How long do I have to wait before my first wax?

To get the best results, the hair to be waxed must be at least ¼” long. This takes about 2 weeks of growth.

I got my eyebrows waxed once and the skin came off. Why?

There can be several reasons for this. Skin care products that contain salicylic acid, glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids of any kind, can cause the skin to lift while waxing. Another area of caution is aggressive exfoliation of the skin, such as microdermabrasion or chemical peels. Prescription medications such as antibiotics, Acutane, or topical ointments such as Retin-A or Renova can cause the skin to thin and lift while being waxed. Other products you should avoid while receiving waxing services are Strivectin, Proactiv, Avita and Avage. If the aesthetician who performed the service used an inferior wax product, is inexperienced or not licensed, the probability of injury is greater. If you are unsure whether the creams or prescriptions you are using are safe for use while waxing, be sure to ask your doctor before making an appointment. Keep in mind it is difficult to predict how skin will react to waxing, no matter how many precautions are taken.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for waxing and to be comfortable?

Yes. Some people find taking ibuprofen 20 minutes before waxing is effective for reducing pain. Some female clients schedule waxing services during the two weeks following the end of their menstrual cycle, because their skin is less sensitive. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol before an appointment may reduce sensitivity and redness after waxing. Pregnancy may increase sensitivity. As always, consult your doctor before taking or ceasing to take any medication.

How long will my skin stay red after waxing?

Everyone’s skin responds differently to waxing. It is common for redness to fade or completely disappear after 30 minutes. If you are concerned about the condition of your skin before or after your appointment, seek advice from your doctor

I’m getting married! How soon before the wedding should I get waxed?

Brides and grooms find it is a good idea to receive waxing services a month before the special day to test how their skin reacts, and pre-book another service one or two days before the event.

What should I do (or not do) after waxing?

For 24 hours after waxing, many people avoid tanning and swimming pools due to the irritating effects of chlorinated water. It makes sense to avoid perfumes, scrubs, and any skin irritants the day of the waxing service.

  • Sun/Tanning Beds
  • Makeup, if face is waxed
  • Chlorinated Water (pool water)
  • Hot Water, Saunas
  • Deodorant with Aluminum
  • Salt Glow or stimulating body or facial treatments
  • Tight Clothing for legs/bikini (No Pantyhose) for 48 hours

To help in ingrown hair prevention, exfoliate (with a sugar or salt scrub) at home beginning 2 days after their waxing session. For continued at home care we recommend exfoliation every other shower or bath.
